Anaphora

Anaphora is a ministry that, in many ways, came together by accident.  Only, we don’t believe in coincidences… it was God’s hand and God’s time that made it possible.

In the summer of 2005, Mike Landry and the director of vocations for the Archdiocese of Edmonton, had made plans to transform an existing monthly evening of Adoration for vocations into EXALT (XLT), a night which would include contemporary praise and worship music, a talk or teaching addressed to the concerns and challenges of young people, and of course, Adoration.  The missing link here was a music ministry.

Under the leadership of Mike Landry, a number of musicians came together out of a common love for God and a desire to use music as a tool to draw people closer to Him.  The primary purpose of this music ministry is to provide music for EXALT, giving members the opportunity to return their musical gifts to the God who first gave these gifts.  As EXALT grew, other opportunities to serve at other youth retreats and rallies left this as-yet unnamed group searching for a name.

Mike’s liturgy class provided a perfect name.  The Greek for the prayer over the offering at Mass is anaphora.  This described the purpose of the band perfectly.  And so, the band had a mission, members, and a name.  Anaphora Music Ministry continues to serve at EXALT at Holy Trinity Parish as well as other retreats, conferences, and youth rallies in and around Edmonton.

If you are interested in having Anaphora offer music ministry for your conference, retreat, Mass, youth rally, or other event, please contact Mike Landry via e-mail at mike@iamthird.ca.

From John Paul II:
The Church entrusts to young people the task of proclaiming to the world the joy which springs from having met Christ... Go and preach the good news that redeems; do it with happiness in your hearts and become communicators of hope in a world which is often tempted to despair.
